The seminar, to be held from 6 to 8pm, Sept. 29, at The Wilshire Grand Hotel in West Orange, is geared to help any size business make the best of essex inbiz expo 2009 the most profitable experience of the year. The first inBiz Expo—held in November 2008-—drew hundreds of people; this year, with the added attraction of Suburban Essex Magazine's Readers' Choice Awards 2009, more than 1,000 people are expected to attend. The pre-Expo seminar will feature a panel of experts addressing effective booth design and displays, demos, signs, staffing, and Jerry Carter, Jr., founder and CEO of First Priority Pay, New Jersey's largest privately held payroll firm, has written his first book. Published in July, Business Clarity offers an inside look at Carter's life and experience at creating a thriving business in a tough economic market. The book, a how-to blueprint for starting a business, covers financing, hiring, defining a target audience, and establishing a corporate identity—all essential aspects for building a successful company. Also outlined are the fundamentals of setting up a business such as licensing and liability insurance. "A lot of owners get into business without knowing about the need to acquire the necessary permits and licenses, " Carter says. In the five years since he started First Priority Pay in a small rented office, Carter has grown the business into a multimillion-dollar company with offices in Hoboken, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Tennessee, Illinois, Missouri, and California. A Phoenix office is set to open soon. The company's focus is on small business, offering payroll services to mom-and-pops and companies with several hundred employees. The card also lists free area resources and a phone number for the statewide Family Helpline, where women can get help. Jon S. Essex County locations include Planned Parenthood of metropolitan nJ in Newark, Curves of Caldwell, Livingston, Nutley, and Upper Montclair, maplewood nail & spa, handcrafters of Livingston, Pinnacle 2000 of Cedar Grove, and the montclair YmCA. New Jersey is the first state nationwide to require health care professionals to educate and screen all new mothers for PPD. Between 11,000 and 16,000 women in the state suffer from postpartum depression every year.
